Hands on with the Tamron 150-500mm f/5-6.7 Di III VC VXD Lens for Sony E-Mount

Tamron recently released a new lens for the Sony Full-Frame E-Mount: Tamron 150-500mm f/5-6.7 Di III VC VXD Lens for Sony E Mount.

This ultra-telephoto zoom lens has a very compact design and fantastic image quality.

Weighing just over 60oz, with a moisture-resistant design, this lens will be a great choice for anyone who is seeking that extended reach to your subject, from birds and wildlife to landscapes, cityscapes and beyond.

A couple of us at Glazer's took one for a spin and wanted to share some examples from our experience.

Capturing Nature

Hilary, who is one of our buyers, took it to the Oregon coast and captured some awesome images of birds in flight, like the Puffin and Common Murre.

We love the composition of of the birds on Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach, OR.

From Hilary:

"The lens is quite good, I took some comparison shots next to my Sony GM 100-400 and was quite surprised how well the Tamron lens did for it's price-point and size. I would have no hesitation recommending this lens."

Check out her photography on Instagram, this feed is focused on birds.

Capturing the City

I also took it out for a spin near the store and captured some images of the Space Needle. For these I paired the Tamron 150-500mm with the new Sony Alpha A1. Here are a few of my fave shots.

Just to give a little perspective, here's a snap from my phone to show how far away I was.

As someone who tends to go with prime lenses for their compactness, I found this lens pretty easy to adjust to. Having the tripod collar on definitely helps with balance. The reach of this lens is quite spectacular.
